The Netherlands Championship: Young double sends high Twente

Luuk de Jong scored twice on his 21st birthday to lead FC Twente back at the top of the Eredivisie as last season's finalist beat VVV Venlo 4-1 to leapfrog Ajax.

After seeing Ajax move to the top with a 4-1 victory: Arnhem Friday, Twente speed matched their rivals to maintain their record of 100% as objectives of Bryan Ruiz and Marc Janko completed strikes De Jong.

Ahmed Musa claimed an individual goal late to restore parity to 1-1, but it lasted only two minutes before De Jong notches, leaving VVV without a victory this season and Twente with boost after their disappointment in the midweek Champions League.

Heracles Almelo saw their invincibility start ended with a 2-1 defeat to NEC Nijmegen. Peter Bosz side came into this fixture with a victory and two draws to their name, but found themselves two goals up in eight minutes at De Goffert with Lasse Schone and Nick van der Velden hit the mark.

Heracles threatened a return when Glynor Plet reduced arrears at the end of the first half, but was also good that she received for the visitors.

Slow startup of the NAC Bredafor the new season of the Netherlands Championship continued as they lost 2-1 at RKC Waalwijk. Evander Sno and Adil Auassar put the hosts in control with Anthony Lurling grabbing a late consolation for NAC. D2 champions last season have taken seven points from their first four fixtures.

FC Utrecht came from a goal towards the low to claim a 3-1 victory on Roda JC. Mads Junker put the visitors ahead after 38 minutes but Thomas Oar bladed six minutes later, before the second period Rodney Sneijder strikes and Jacob Mulenga sealed the points for the hosts.
